Houston has long been the focus of an independent hip-hop music scene. Other styles like hardcore rap, rock, blues, folk, and country music, have also influenced the music culture. Houston is home to many notable artists from Beyoncé Knowles to ZZ Top. Blues music recordings started during the 1940s in Houston. One of the first recording studios started in Houston was Gold Star Recording Studio. Famous throughout the years for recording many famous and influential artists, the studio, today, is called Sugar Hill Recording Studio and still continues to record local, regional, and national musicians.
