Houston was founded along Buffalo Bayou in 1836 by Brothers Augustus Chapman Allen and John Kirby Allen.
The Allen brothers named their town after Sam Houston and persuaded the Texas Congress to designate the site as the temporary capital of the new Republic of Texas
